Both Rome and Carthage were powerful ancient civilizations with significant influence in the Mediterranean region. Rome is often seen as the epitome of ancient civilization, known for its military prowess, engineering achievements, and lasting impact on Western culture. On the other hand, Carthage was a formidable rival to Rome, known for its maritime power and commercial success. Ultimately, the conflict between Rome and Carthage, known as the Punic Wars, resulted in the eventual dominance of Rome and the destruction of Carthage. **

The destruction of Carthage was carried out by the Roman army under the command of Scipio Aemilianus. After a three-year siege, the Romans breached the city's defenses and engaged in brutal hand-to-hand combat with the Carthaginian defenders. The city was then systematically looted and burned to the ground, with the surviving inhabitants either killed or enslaved. The destruction of Carthage was so complete that the Romans famously sowed the city with salt to ensure that nothing would ever grow there again. **
